I am very satisfied with this year Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2016 (Astro 国际华裔小姐竞选 2016) results.

I still don’t understand why Miss Malaysia Chinese International Pageant is changed to Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant. Maybe it has got to do with, since the organizer is spending to promote the event it deserves some form of branding.

But since this is an internet world, please usually search by Miss Countries/Cities Chinese Pageant, like Miss Hong Kong, Zhujiang, Vancouver, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, New York, Chicago, whatever Chinese Pageant. But our pageant name does not have city or country name like Kuala Lumpur or Malaysia. This will reduce visibilities as fans and media people will search to view their early favorites.

Instead of the usual top 10 Miss Astro finalist, this year Astro decides to only have top 8 finalist. Thing is, there were many good quality contestants this year. Some of the contestants that should have made it into finalist were Wenny 何温妮, Crystal 林嘉欣, Tammy 王慧瑜

Even there are only 8 finalist, more than half of them were really great contestants like No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤, No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲, No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮, No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡, and No.6 Kendra Sow Khai Syuan 苏凯璇.

During online poll of Miss Popularity 全民女神奖, No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 was leading all the way followed by No.6 Kendra Sow Khai Syuan 苏凯璇.

It will take sharp and detail analysis for the judges to really come out with deserving winner for Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2016 (Astro 国际华裔小姐竞选2016). Thanks to the new fresh judges like Venice Min 陳慧敏, Jojo 吴俐璇, Rachel Tan Weng Kim 陈泳锦, and Miss Hong Kong Grace Chan 陳凱琳, great winners are born - No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤, No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲. With the usual judges, the results would be very much different. I think the age gap between the contestants and judges should not be too wide. If you are like 50 over years old evaluating a 20 years old contestant, it would look like you are evaluating your children or grandchildren. It's a completely different world.

I also like the fact that they brought back some of the former Miss Astro as judges such as Jojo 吴俐璇, Rachel Tan Weng Kim 陈泳锦, and even Miss Hong Kong Grace Chan 陳凱琳. They don’t really have to be main title winners.

The must have is of course Melissa Tong Wei Chan 唐慧珍, 2003 1st runner up. She was in so many Astro 華麗台 Wah Lai Toi advertisements for major brands. Just got to love her.

Some other who could make guest appearance includes - 2003 winner Vivien Yeo Siew Hui 楊㛢僡 who has changed a lot and still doing work for Hong Kong TVB, 2001 winner Angela Foo Sue Ee 符愫娛, 2004 Websurfers Choice Award winner Brigitte Tan Swee Ling 陳瑞琳, Clare Wong Yee Chin 黃意晶, the favorite in 2006 (Same year as Jojo 吴俐璇), 2007 Chloe Lean Peck Luan 連碧鸞, Sharon Beh Sok Luan 馬舒鸞, and Miss Photogenic - Naomi Lim Kar Nee 林嘉妮, 2009 Katrina Ho Fooi Tin 何蕢町, 2010 hot contestants Karena 张虹, Vivien 郑雁涵, Tracy 锺佳恩, 2012 Denise 陈楚寰, Mico 李蕙伶, Sammi 张佩晶, 2013 Fancy Goh 吴胤婷, Elise Tan 陈玢奾 1st-Runner up Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant Southeast Asia Grand Final 2015, 2014 winner Anjoe Koh 许愫恩, 2015 Jany Lee Sing Yi Miss Gorgeous, etc.

The first award was Miss Photogenic 最上镜小姐. The winner is No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤.

The third award is Miss Popularity 全民女神奖. The winner is No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤.

Right after subsidiary titles announcement, it was unusual to announce the 3rd runner up immediately. The 3rd runner up is No.6 Kendra Sow Khai Syuan 苏凯璇. That is a shocking news for Kendra’s fan. She has been No.2 in Miss Popularity, but now end up not in the top 3. The good news is she did get something considering other contestants were really strong too. It also goes to show No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 is in a complete different league with Kendra considering her already won 2 most important subsidiary titles and top 3 are almost guaranteed.

Then, the 2nd runner up title. No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲, No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮, and No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡 will be eying for this title except for No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 who is definitely going for the crown. The 2nd runner up is No.8 Bella 徐苑绮. Shocking.

Surprisingly they announced the 2 highest points - No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 and No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲. All hopes were lost for No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮, and No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡

The only contestant that can possibly grab the crown away from No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 is No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲, but Serene Lim was just too perfect. Superb and consistent performance since the first day until the very last moment.

Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤 has a princess look that you really want her to win and will be very disappointed to many people and heart breaking if she lose. Her winning the crown cheered many people up.

I felt sad for No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮, and No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡 because they easily could have won the 2nd runner up title.

WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT ALTERNATIVE

The winners announcement format was done in a way that has no excitement at all. Mainly I think because there is no top 5 announcement and then proceed to top 3 winners. Traditionally it would have been like this.

The top 5 finalist are - No.1 Serene Lim Shyi Yee 林宣妤, No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲, No.6 Kendra Sow Khai Syuan 苏凯璇, No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮 and then, super adrenalin rush, and No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡.

Then, top 3 announcements. 3rd runner up No.4 Show Shi Hui 苏诗僡, then 2nd runner up No.3 Annie Law 罗安妮.

Between these 3 contestants, the 1st runner up is...No.2 Jacqueline Tiang Ai Ling 程爱玲.
