X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) Review - Psylocke

X-Men: Apocalypse Psylocke

I have just watched X-Men: Apocalypse and I just want to write about Apocalypse’s relationship with his new Horseman. His ancient Horseman, were pretty loyal people. One of them use his body to protect Apocalypse, then known as En Sabah Nur and especially the pretty lady who uses all her power to preserve Apocalypse even to her death.

In the 80s, things changed. Apocalypse is supposed to assemble a team of powerful and loyal mutants who believes in his mission for a whole new world. His recruitment process is too simplistic.

He first met Storm by accident when she was in trouble. He killed them and gave her more power. Storm is a troubled mutant.

Then he meet Psylocke. She was NOT a troubled mutant. She was daring enough to attack Apocalypse and Storm with her sword. Instead of killing her immediately easily, he gives her more power and sell her his vision. Storm certainly didn’t like Psylocke.

Next, we have Angel who is an injured mutant who can fly. He gave him more power, a better wings. Angel is also a troubled mutant.

Then, they meet Magneto who has family problem and wanted revenge. He killed them and gave him more power. Another troubled mutant.

There are major differences between Psylocke and other Horseman. Psylocke was not a troubled mutant like Storm, Angel and Magneto. Psylocke was the only one who tried to attack Apocalypse and gets away with it. Psylocke was the only real fighter. Storm and Magneto betrayed Apocalypse. Angel, the only flying mutant dies on a flight crash.

Even towards the end, we can see how Apocalypse treats Psylocke differently.

Psylocke received different treatment. After capturing Quicksilver, he was delighted to see Psylocke being alive and told her to finish of Quicksilver, while Storm hiding and watch. Psylocke cut Apocalypse’s throat. He healed and grabbed her neck. Storm was still watching. Storm is still watching. What was she thinking? If she is still on Apocalypse’s side, she would have come out long time ago. If she has switched, she should have to help the struggling Psylocke who tried to kill Apocalypse. Apocalypse squeeze Psylocke harded. Psylocke is in trouble. Apocalypse look at her and squeeze again. Is Psylocke going to die? I don’t think he wanted to kill her. He could have done it easily.

Then it was reveal, she was actually Mystique. This is when he really squeeze to the max. But, why did Storm gets so emotional distract when it was revealed the choking woman is Mystique instead of Psylocke?

I think Storm was jealous of Psylocke. She used to be the boss’s favorite girl until Psylocke join the team.
